Types of Species Interactions

Image
Introduction Have you ever wondered how different species benefit each other in an environment? Or how they harm each other? Or even how they don't have an effect at all on each other? Well that's what I am going to be talking about in this blog. We interact with different species all of the time. There are many types of interactions that affect an environment's food chain, biodiversity, and its whole way of life. All species interactions have 3 possible outcomes. They can either be negative, neutral, or positive. They can either benefit one another, harm one another, or have no effect at all on the species.  Competition The first type of interaction that is very common between species is competition. Competition is an interaction in which birth, growth, and death depend on gaining a share of an environmental resource. It's an interaction of organisms that lead to a change in fitness when the organisms share the same resource.  There are also three main forms of compet...

Gregor Mendel And His Findings

Image
Introduction Have you ever wondered why you have blue eyes if your dad has green eyes? Or why your hair is curly but your mom's hair is straight as a board? Well that's exactly what I am going to be talking about in this blog. Perhaps you have heard of this guy named Gregor Mendel. If not that's okay. He was a learner, teacher, and a scientist. He used pea plants as his model system for Inheritance Demonstrated traits that are transmitted from parents to offspring in specific patterns. In other words, he used pea plants to identify how genes are passed from parent to its offspring. How we obtain our traits. He found that plants always produce offspring that look like the parent. Gregor Mendel helped make what we call punnet squares, which we all have all probably heard about in school. He also founded the Fundamental laws of inheritance which is very important to science today.  Background Like I stated earlier Gregor Mendel was a learner, teacher, and a scientist. He was ...

Plant vs Animal cells

Image
Almost everyone knows that every living thing has cells. Almost all living things have eukaryotic cells. There is only a few living things like bacteria that has prokaryotic cells. But did you know that there are 2 different kinds of eukaryotic cells. You and a plant have two different types of cells within you. So what are these cells? There is animal cells and there is plants cells. I think you can guess which one we have. In case you didn't it is animal cells. So you are probably thinking that that's cool and all, but what is the difference? Well that's exactly what I'm going to be talking about in this blog.  Both plant and animal cells have a eukaryotic structure and they both do cellular processes like mitosis and meiosis. When looking at a picture of an animal and plant cell by first glance it may look like they are the same. But when we really look into the details, you can see that they are actually pretty different. All cells have organelles within them. Orga...
